FPS: Frost Protection System — open stack on GitHub

A spring frost can wipe out a season in one night. FPS (Frost Protection System) protects orchards with irrigation and ice: the water anomaly and latent heat keep the flower at 0–2 °C, aiming for a ~100% RH microclimate. Software and hardware — Kotlin, Swift, C++, Python, LoRa, cloud — live on the public GitHub github.com/qtechdesign/qtech (MIT, master branch, FPS/ folder).

Why FPS exists

Mission: sustainable food production via HW+SW — micro-location data + analytics. Vision: an open platform for efficient frost protection. Qtech builds critical production systems; FPS is one product in that line, not the studio’s only identity.

FPS architecture — sensors, LoRa, cloud, GDPR
Multisensor, private LoRa gateway, microclimate cloud — encrypted transit, GDPR-oriented.

How it works

  1. Physics — water anomaly / latent heat; ice crust keeps flowers at 0–2 °C; aim for a saturated microclimate (~100% RH) to save water.
  2. Multisensor node — solar, 12 V battery, 5 V; readings ~every 3 minutes; low power, sleep between measurements.
  3. Communication — private LoRa gateway up to ~10 km (subject to local regulations).
  4. Cloud — microclimate data (temperature, humidity, light, soil moisture); GDPR-oriented; encrypted transit.
  5. PIP 2.0 pulsator — ~5 m range at 1 bar; rainfall intensity ~1.2–2.0 mm/m²/h.
  6. Operations on qtech.hr/pages/sustav — sprinkler irrigation; start at least one hour before expected frost; emergency activation within five minutes; parameters: air temperature, humidity, dew point, wind, phenophase, forecast.
